Melanie B. Barnard - Employee Benefits Consultant
Melanie joined the firm on June 1, 2001 and is an Employee Benefit Consultant in the Denver GCG Financial office. As a licensed Life-Accident-Health agent, her responsibilities include the marketing, implementation and servicing of employee benefit products in the Colorado region.
Melanie is a Minnesota native and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Iowa State University in 1986 and her Master of Education and Human Resource Studies from Colorado State University in 2005. She joined the Principal Financial Group in 1987 as a Pension Administrator in their corporate office and was appointed Group Service Coordinator for Principal's Denver regional office in 1989. In 1994, Melanie joined Denver-based Benefit Development Company which later merged with GCG Financial.
Currently, she is a member of the Metro Denver Association of Health Underwriters, the Colorado Group Insurance Association, the Colorado Human Resource Association, the South Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce and the Colorado Bioscience Association. Melanie has served as Treasurer for the Colorado Chapter of the Women Life Underwriters' Confederation and has also been a featured speaker on the topic of qualified retirement plans.
Melanie and her husband Mike live in Larkspur, Colorado with their two children, Lauren and Joseph. Through volunteerism and philanthropic donations, Melanie and her family support their church and other local organizations such as Denver Children's Hospital and The Denver Health Foundation.
In her spare time, Melanie plays several musical instruments and is an avid reader. She also enjoys collecting antiques, traveling, and attending cultural events.
